Impact Studios recording room has been analyzed by an acoustical engineer at Auralex Acoustics, and provided a solution. The purpose for the room being acoustically treated is to eliminate any echo or reverberation around the room. Some may think you would want to record in a concert hall, or in a controlled echo room, however this leaves a lot of uncontrollable variables in a recording. Recording with natural reverberation can affect the quality of the source of sound you are wanting to capture in the first place. Recording in a zero-reverb environment is always preferable because you can add any type of reverb you need to in post-production, effectively simulating any environment imaginable, all the while preserving the intricate details of the recording.

You may wonder why every single surface in the studio is not plastered in studio panels? When you think about sound as coming from a source, the goal is to stop it from bouncing. When sound is coming from a source you can measure where the sound can be bouncing to create reverb. With a specialized acoustical engineer, you can strategically place acoustic treatment to eliminate reverb in a room without full coverage, most effectively in a specific spot in the room. Any reverb that is left over in the room after the treatment (which is very little) can be removed very carefully in post-production, effectively achieving the same results in a fully plastered room you might see in a large facility charging triple the cost or more.
